What It Is
Dynaweld Water Soluble Purging Paper and Tape is a complete purge dam system for TIG (GTAW) welding of stainless steel and aluminium pipes. The paper creates a temporary gas-tight purge barrier inside the pipe, retaining argon or helium within the weld zone. Placing the dams close to the weld joint dramatically reduces inert gas consumption versus traditional remote purge systems. After welding, the paper and tape dissolve completely in water or steam, leaving zero residue inside the pipeline.

How to Build & Use a Purge Dam β Step by Step
Trace & Impress
Press the water soluble paper along the pipe's inner edge to create an impression of the inner diameter. Fold to form a 90Β° angle.
Cut
Cut in a circle around the impression β approximately 1/3Γ larger than the pipe diameter to allow for the folded flange.
Slit
Cut 1"β2" slits perpendicular to the impression β start at the 12 o'clock position, then 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock, and so on around the full circle.
Position & Tape
Position the slit paper dam inside the pipe at the correct proximity to the weld zone (see table above). Secure the dam around the entire circumference with Dynaweld Water Soluble Tape.
Activate Tape
Lightly dab a damp sponge along the tape seal. The moisture reactivates the adhesive, creating a low air-permeability seal. Allow to dry to achieve an effective gas-tight seal.
Repeat Opposite Side
Repeat Steps 1β5 on the opposite side of the pipe to close the purge chamber. Ensure both dams are positioned at the correct distance from the weld zone.
Introduce Purge Gas
Insert the purge gas needle into the root gap. Introduce argon or helium while ensuring connection to gas line. Monitor oxygen levels if possible.
Weld
Carry out the TIG welding process. The paper dams retain the purge gas within the purge chamber, ensuring a clean, oxide-free root weld.
Dissolve & Remove
After welding, introduce water or steam during hydro-test. The paper and tape dissolve completely and rapidly β leaving zero residue inside the pipeline.

Zero Residue β Biodegradable
